It’s going to be summer soon. Actually it’s already summer, but it’s still raining… so I’m saying it’s going to summer soon. Hehe. But anyway, one of the best ways to beat the summer heat is by drinking the Pinoy Ice Scramble!

One time, when I was outside, I heard someone walking along the sidewalk asking his friend, “Bakit ang sarap ng ice scramble?”

I don’t know why he asked that because he was not having ice scramble during that time. Well, maybe he had it a few minutes ago before I saw him and his friend. Nyok!

I would have wanted to answer his question but I did not know him and he might find it weird if I suddenly talked to him. So I’m answering that question here. Hehe.

Well if you love milk, I believe you will love Ice Scramble too! Because it’s basically evaporated milk with some banana flavoring mixed with sugar and shaved ice.

Plus, you can put a lot of toppings on it. Anything you want like marshmallows, candy sprinkles and others.

But if you want the classic Pinoy Ice Scramble that first became popular in the 80?s. Then just put powdered milk and chocolate syrup on top. Yummy!

And that’s why Ice Scramble is delicious! And just in case you want to make your own version at home, you can check out this article: How To Make Ice Scramble.

You’ll discover there why Ice Scramble is colored pink! Go ahead and read it. Nyok!

I usually don’t venture out and try new drinks especially since they cost alot! But I had to try this Chai Latte. My office mates raved about it all the time. How could I pass that up? So I trooped off to the nearest Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (since apparently they have the best). I ordered my Chai Latte in LARGE so I had no choice but to finish it!

Upon first sip, I immediately found the taste funny. You could definitely taste the tea. But the hint of dairy because of the milk threw me off at first. I remember Chowking serving Chai Tea’s also but never bothered trying those. The more I drank I quickly determined there was Cinnamon in the drink. I took baby sips. Not because I wanted to savor every sip, but rather I was trying to get used to the taste in my mouth.

Oddly enough, the more I started drinking, the more relaxed I felt. I didn’t feel the sudden on-rush of a sugar rush or caffine craze that comes with the standard espresso/cappucino/latte I usually order, but rather a soothing feeling which probably is because of the tea. It was sweet. Not too sweet though and leaves a Cinnamon-y taste in your mouth.

The experience was new. I slowly enjoyed and patted myself on the back for trying out new things. You grow to like it. I get now why people would like this drink. There is a chance I will be buying this again.

About an hour ago, I just came from a successful TV5 1st Anniversary Celebration at the Glorietta 3 tent in Makati. After the event, me and my friend Mica went to UCC Cafe to chill and order some drinks and desserts there other than Coffee and a Cappucino drink (115 Php).

I had their Mango Crepe (219 Php). It has two big scoops of mango ice cream covered with crepe and fresh mangoes that lie on a mango syrup! A very mango-filled dish indeed! Hahahaha, I sound so redundant..Oh well

Mica had a Strawberry and Cream Cooler (145 Php). Mica said that the cream of this drink was very tasty. More or less it tastes like strawberry milkshake. She noted that the taste of the drink was better before, but it’s really good she says.

That’s just what we ordered. We spent most of the time chatting at UCC’s cold and relaxing atmosphere.

I have always considered Cafe Xocolat in Loyola Heights as a very cozy place to hangout. It’s a Wifi hotspot, and it is always nice to indulge in reasonably-priced quality chocolate products. I’m a self-confessed chocolate lover. :p

It was April 2008 when I was included in the list of bloggers for the Spot.ph Serendra and Bonifacio street foud tour. Cafe Xocolat was one of our stops back then and we were given a sample of their Original Sin Gourmet Brownie that was oh-so fudgy, a shot of their Taza de Xocolat (familiar with the tsokolate de batirol? ) and I remember the last one was like Cordon Bleu.

Not everything that’s served in Cafe Xocolat is all-chocolate. They also serve other meals like what I consumed lately at Loyola Heights. I had Cream Dory with baked mashed potatoes on the side (which at first I thought was Creme Brulee hehehe ). The sauce was yummy and best when drizzled on the Dory.

There’s always something which I come back for when I go to Cafe Xocolat other than their Taza Xocolat. It’s their Vanilla Mudslide Drink, basically a vanila shake with one of their gourmet brownies. Cafe Xocolat adds a kick to this drink by adding a shot of Bailey’s Irish cream.

I’m always satisfied when I go to eat or drink at Cafe Xocolat. Servings are big enough for me..Hmm, well I wish the Taza de Xocolat would get bigger though! :p Haha! I’ll do another Cafe Xocolat post when I come back there.

*prices of some products on the Menu are here

Last Thursday, me and my cousin Chari went for another spontaneous hangout at Greenbelt 3 in Makati. Due to the traffic that night before the holiday last Friday, we were not able to make it on time for our movie schedule. So we just ate the night away at Kopi Roti.

On the first picture is just a Milo Chocolate Drink at Kopi Roti. It’s one of the options for changing the default drink from the set of meals offered there. A 5-peso extra charge from the total of the bill…hehehe, I don’t drink coffee anymore because I’m allergic to it already. :p

These are what they call the Kopi Roti Kaya Toasts. A Kaya Toast plainly toasted bread filled with butter and a ‘kaya’ spread that’s usually a popular item in Singapore. Kaya is a.k.a Coconut Jam.

This is Kopi Roti’s Soft-Boiled Egg with their special soy sauce and topped white pepper. My cousin Chari told me that it goes well with the Kaya Toasts…and it tasted good when I dipped my Kaya Toasts with it.

I have always been familiar with the name of the cafe ever since I was studying in the Ateneo during my college years. I’ve heard much good feedback about it and especially for their coffee buns. On that night however, I chose to eat one of their set meals recommended by my cousin. Maybe I’ll just do a review of what the famous coffee bun tastes like next time I eat there.

Nope, Godiva is not the beauty product company we know of here in the Philippines. The Godiva Chocolate stores are, unfortunately, not found here in the Philippines but if you visit other cities (KL, Singapore, Hong Kong) do drop by to visit because it is not very often that you visit such a chocolate store of class like Godiva.

Summer’s nearing in some countries that has four seasons and this chocolate drink is one way to cool off and chill. Since it’s almost always summer here in the Philippines (except when there’s a tropical storm) it would be nice if we have it here. But, summer or not… this drink is a sure winner to me! Even the cool winds atop the Victoria peak in Hong Kong would not stop me from taking a sip on this chiller.

I had my first sip of it when my friend bought one. The first sip was so foodgasmic that I said I really had to buy one of those… So I asked my friend how much she bought it for. When she said it costs HKD 42, I almost fainted! It’s almost like PHP 260 if converted! Nevertheless, I was craving so much for this taste of heaven that when we stopped by in a Godiva store in Sogo, TST (near avenue of the stars), I had to buy myself one! I just kept on thinking that it’s just like buying two Starbucks frappes… and it’s not always that I visit a Godiva store… So there, I have justifies my indulgence!

It has actually five flavors available: Dark Chocolate Raspberry, Dark Chocolate Decadence, Milk Chocolate Caramel, Milk Chocolate Decadence, White Chocolate Rasberry. I tried the Dark Chocolate Decadence myself and the only flavour I have tried for now. If you want to try this for the first time try the Dark Chocolate Decadence first, this is the classic/original one.

I bought some of these small-packaged chocolate for pasalubong to some people in my office. They are so expensive that I unfortunately could not buy one for myself anymore . One chocolate bar costs about HKD 39. That’s about PHP 240!!! I’d be double dead if I buy for everyone!

Take a look at this chocolate collection they have… I’m pretty sure you’ll drool over this blog

Puerto Galera, it’s all sand, sun, skin and the sling – Mindoro Sling that is. It was a PG in PG last Holy Week. Yes, a Patay Gutom in Puerto Galera got thirsty and what else would you drink in this top Philippine beach destination? The infamous Mindoro Sling of course.

Pour in the fun and be merry. Who cares if it’s just 2 o’clock in the afternoon and you’re already drunk? You’re in vacation anyway, right? So get a pitcher of Mindoro Sling and let the alcohol flow.

A pitcher of Mindoro Sling costs around P300 last Holy Week. It’s probably cheaper during off peak season. But if you and your buddies are feeling lazy to go to Puerto Galera, it’s really easy to make this concoction at home.

Here’s one of the many Mindoro Sling recipes out there (parrot head stirrer not included). Just mix all the ingredients in a pitcher and enjoy.

1 lapad of Tanduay rhum

1 can of Gina’s Mango Nectar juice

1-1/2 jigger of Sunny Orange syrup

1-1/2 jigger calamansi concentrate

1 jigger Grenadine

1 can Sprite

fresh apple and orange slices

lots of ice

If you’re feeling lazy to shop for all the ingredients, then just mix 1 lapad of Tanduay Rhum with a liter of Del Monte Four Seasons juice. You can also use the Fit N’ Right four seasons flavor so you’ll burn fats while getting drunk. Multi-tasking FTW!

In no time, I’m sure you’ll be saying the business name of this bar to your friends.

And that my friends is the Mindoro Sling of Puerto Galera. Remember to drink moderately!

Cheers!

My family loves fruits that’s why we usually buy them in bulk. Imagine my surprise when I saw this insanely huge watermelon being carried by my father one afternoon. He just came from Bulacan and this was his pasalubong for me.

He knows that I love watermelons and like any patay gutom, my mouth started to water at the sight of this gigantic pakwan.

So what do you do with this much watermelon? You make watermelon shake of course!

Just throw slices of watermelon and chunks of ice cubes in a blender, add sugar until the desired sweetness is achieved and you have for yourself a thirst-quenching watermelon shake that’s perfect for summer. Aaahh!
