Congratulations to us! Yipeee! Special thanks to Madelin M. Galvez for nominating us! So what’s the reason behind this nomination? Why did Madelin nominated Patay Gutom? This was her answer:

What makes this website outstanding? Because they feature different food trips they (Patay Gutom bloggers) experienced as they roam around the Philippines. They as well indicate the price of the featured food as well as the taste as much as possible.

Thanks Madeline! You really made us happy and super happy! Hehe…

Congratulations also to our fellow Patay Gutom respondents for winning an award in the Digital Filipino web awards. Congrats to My Brute Cheats and Flair Candy. Woooooooot!

Anyone curious about our 4 Course Meal at the Pan Pacific? Until now I still can’t get over the unlimited drink butter and bread refills at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore. The whole course was great from start to finish. Let me do a rundown on what we ate and my feedback about all of it :

Marinated Smoked Tuna with Feta, Herb Salad, and Balsamic Olive Oil

I’ve been always a fan of seared tuna salad dishes. Pan Pacific’s perfectly seared and smoked tuna (perfectly coated too as you can see on the picture) tasted very delicious as it complimented with the strong balsamic flavor of the olive oil drizzle. Each bite is eaten best with the cherry tomatoes on the side, which are really sweet ones. If one wants a tine of saltiness, there are bites of blue cheese on the side. I love it and cleared the whole plate.

Light Cream of Asparagus and Green Peas topped with a Chive Mousseline

I was pretty surprised upon looking at the menu of our four course meal. This soup had a dominating pumpkin flavor to it than green peas. As far as I can remember I wasn’t able to have any bite of asparagus bits on my soup too…LOL. Anyway, this dish was well-appreciated even without looking at its name. Hehehe :p

Rosemary Marinated Chicken with Saffron Cheesy Mash Potato and Balsamic Reduction Mediterranean Vegetable in Mango Coriander Salsa Sauce

This was the biggest dish from all the dishes served to us. It was like eating 1/3 of roasted chicken breast topped on a huge mash potato layer. The mashed potato gave a lot of flavor to the dish as it had a really cheesy yet sweet potato flavor it is, the chicken was not as seasoned but cooked just right. Hmm..this was almost a perfect dish to me along with the top herbs, but there is just one herb that I’m not fond of which made me separated some of its bits on my plate- Wansuy. Ack, for me it did cut my enjoyment of the whole dish as I was happily savoring and chewing my dish. Thank God there were just a few bits of it on my dish, the herb flavor was just too strong for me than rosemary. Nevertheless I did enjoy this dish…even with all the chopping I had to do with the chicken hehehehe…

Praline Hazelnut Gateau with Rasberry Jelly

The dish tasted like a mix of chocolate mouse and tiramisu. It was served with fresh Strawberries, Rasberries and Blueberries. Suddenly I remember my farm at Farmville…Hahaha! Sorry for the Farmville Family Frenzy hahaha… :p It took me a while to finish the dish and finally eat all that Rasberry Jelly that had a strong kick to its flavor. Overall the dish gave great closure to the whole course. It was also great with some tea on the side.

This ends my share about what we ate at the Blog Awards and it makes me wonder about the other dishes that the Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore serves. Truly great dishes indeed that leaves you filling and craving for more. I hope I can someday afford meal like this in a great hotel in Singapore.

Thank you Nuffies for choosing Pan Pacific and the 4-Course Meal.

General Santos City is well known for being the home of the People’s Champ, Manny Pacquaio. But for foodie’s like me, General Santos City means so much more. Bordering the line between Saranggani Province and South Cotabato, here lies a burgeoning city where rural life meets urban life.

GenSan as it is more commonly referred to is a sort of melting pot of Luzon and the Visasayas. I was in GenSan only last May and let me tell you I enjoyed the food so much that I wanted to return purely for the food if not for the view. General Santos had indeed the freshest seafood you could want. Straight from Saranggani Bay, the Tuna is absolutely divine to be eaten with fresh fruit shakes. I am getting hungry just writing and recounting my visit. Chef Chriselda “Kring” Macion of Marasa Grill promised to take me back via the food she had prepared for us. I told her she had a tall task indeed!

A little background about our Chef today. Chef Chriselda Macion, Kring as she is fondly called by her friends and peers, is from Marasa Grill right at the heart of GenSan.(Marasa means masarap or delicious in english) She holds a B.S. Hotel and Restaurant Management degree from St.Paul’s College, Quezon City. Right after graduation she wanted to come back to her hometown and be of service to her community. She spent 8 long years working in the hotel industry, and after learning the ropes decided to open her own little restaurant right in her family’s garage. From a small 24-seating restaurant it grew in to a 60-seating restaurant not to mention the airconditioned function room which can hold 50 people in the adjacent area. She then decided to finally continue her studies and studied under TESDA to get the title Chef. She is a definite authority figure when it comes to General Santos cuisine.

Now Unto The Food:

First up appetizers:

Kinilaw na Tuna (Tuna soaked in Strong Vinegar and allowed to “cook”)

Not to be biased, but I love this dish. I am a big fan of making dishes in Kilawin and this is definitely on the top of list. The juicy-ness of sashimi as well as the freshness of the fish is complimented with the strong taste of vinegar. How can you say stop after a couple of spoonfulls??

Kinilaw na Dilis sa Gata (Long Jawed Anchovy “cooked” in vinegar and coconut milk)

I also am a big fan of this fish. But if you are not a fan of anchovies in the first place better to steer clear of this dish.Last up for the appetizers straight from GenSan is:

Eggplant Salad

I am not a big fan of eggplant. So I did not try this. But based on how it looks, I think its quite good. Reminds me of ensalada. After tasting the appetizers, I knew the journey had begun. Memories from my General Santos trip slowly came back. It seemed like it was such a long time ago. And here I am again eating the same food. This was a good start. Chef Kring certainly is living up to her promise. I was excited as the waiters brought more and more food out. I knew it was going to be a tiring trip down memory lane.

And I was ready.
Cafe Jeepney offers a FREE buffet meal for a fifth person for every group of four buffet-paying adults. Diners get a chance to participate in the hotel’s 40th Anniversary Grand Raffle for every P4000 in a single recipet at the restaurant. Prizes at stake are a Princess Cruise for two to Alaska or the Mexican Riviera or the Caribbean and two round trip tickets from Manila to any European destination c/o KLM airlines.

Aside from the appetizers mentioned above Cafe Jeepney offers some unique concoctions of their own.

Shrimp Shot Pasta

Can I just say that the bacon bits here were cooked to perfection! This is how bacon should taste like. Both crunchy and salty and yet tastes so good!

3 Cheese and Crackers

The Patay Gutom team would like to thank everyone who nominated us for the Top 10 Emerging Influential Blogs for 2009! You rock! We also rock! You rule! We also rule! You eat! We also eat! You ____ ! We also _____! Whatever you want to do, just do it! Because whatever we want to do, we’ll just do it!

Our tears are overflowing now… we really can’t contain it. We are overjoyed and we are so grateful because we didn’t expect that a lot loves us and a lot cares about us.

For we were dead hungry and you gave us something to eat, we were thirsty and you gave us something to drink, we needed clothes and you clothed us, we were sick and you looked after us, we were in prison and you came to visit us, we were strangers, but yet you didn’t hesitate to nominate us and believed that we are truly emerging and influential.

Again, we would like to give our greatest gratitude to you, to everyone of you. From the fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatever passes through the paths of the seas. Thank you… thank you… thank you…

Most of the day was spent going around the beautiful Island Cove and of course, eating!

We arrived in Island Cove in Kawit, Cavite at around 9:00 AM, it’s just an hour’s drive from our meeting place, which was at Bonifacio High Street. Here’s a shot of us during our morning orientation. We were eating hotdog, potato chips and drinking orange juice.

The first agenda of the day was a tour of the island. The bloggerventurer’s were taken to see the different areas of the Island Cove hotel and leisure park which included the Oceania Water Park, the Animal Island, the Fishing Village, the Adventure Activity Zone and many more.

Here are some of the animals we saw. We were able to feed the monkeys with bananas and they were all patay gutom like us. Nyok!

In the afternoon, the bloggerventurers played an Amazing Race game. We followed clues and did several tasks. I was with the green team along with Jeffrey, Audrey, Bryan, and our group leader, Jennifer.

Guess who won the Amazing Race game? It was our team, the Green Team! Woot!

Did you know that I had to eat a bowl of boiled ampalaya, onions and tomatoes during the food eating task? Sorry there’s no picture of that, I was so much in a hurry to eat.

But anyway, here’s a picture of our team and a blurry jumpshot during the awarding ceremonies. You can see Managing Director and Congressman Gilbert Remulla at the side watching us.

Sorry if I have no food pictures of our lunch, which was nilagang baka, lechon manok, liempo, talong with bagoong, pancit canton and fresh fruits. But here was our menu for our merienda, puto, turon, bibingka, puto bumbong and palabok. Yummy!

Lastly, here’s our class picture.

Thank you Island Cove!
