Revisiting The Cafe Mediterranean

Cafe Mediterranean at MOA

The Cafe Mediterranean — or Cafe Med for the tamad (like me) to say the restaurant’s name in its entirety — has always been a good restaurant to visit whenever I’m on the prowl for something exciting yet still relatively familiar. Hmm. Did I just made sense there?

On a Tuesday night at Cafe Med, I was feeling the urge to consume gyro. However, their Moussaka dish intrigued me. Although it’s a dish I’ve always heard on food networks and whatnot, I never really bothered to go out and find how it tastes like. Fortunately, I found out that Cafe Med has Moussaka (stupid me for not noticing all this time) and so it was almost imperative that I order it.

Moussaka

When the Moussaka arrived, I must say it looked appetizing and smelled absolutely good. It had a very apple pie-esque fragrance though. As soon as my plate arrived, my two companions — the boyfriend and the best friend — immediately dug around my plate. It’s basically like a casserole/lasagna dish with generous eggplants sandwiched between ground beef. 🙂

The combination of eggplant and ground beef was divine, but I just couldn’t find myself to love the bechamel sauce. It has a sweetness that I don’t think sits well with main dishes. I mean, I couldn’t help but think I was eating apple pies with every bite. :p

Grilled-Beef-Kebab-with-Buttered-Rice

The boyfriend’s Grilled Beef Kebab With Buttered Rice. If you want something “safe” from Cafe Med, any of their Kebabs and Gyros (below) are your best bets. This was so good that the boyfriend simply had to order another cup of rice. Yes! We don’t know if the pile of greens is actually a salad, but whatever that is, it was yummy. 🙂

Grilled Beef Gyro Plate with Pita

The best friend chose well that night too, ordering Grilled Beef Gyro with Pita. The beef is essentially the same as the kebab. I think the only difference between the two is the manner in which the beef is cooked/roasted. Whichever you choose, you’re not going to regret it. Oh yes. I’ve tried this before and I can vouch for its gastronomical awesomeness.
